Research: The main interest of the Martin lab is on translational liver research in the field of nuclear receptors with a particular focus on the nuclear receptors FXR, PXR and LRH-1. One major research focus currently is the role of nuclear receptors in autophagy in relation to various human diseased conditions and their pharmacological exploitations. In this respect, we also filed two European patent applications for autophagy activating compounds for the treatment of lysosomal storage diseases and liver disease caused by alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency.
