Talk Title: Immigrant Integration, Exclusion, or Accommodation? Ethnographic Observations from the Rural Midwest
Abstract: Inspired by a classic study of relations between immigrant and non-immigrant residents conducted four decades ago across the U.S., this ethnography examines relations between Guatemalan immigrants and non-immigrant White residents in a Kansas town in today’s broader context of immigration. A complex picture emerges when the perspectives of those involved, and the practical realities of immigration, are centered, with possible implications beyond the specific case.
