Nuclear energy has always advanced through a steady pairing of fundamentals with practical engineering: reactor physics and materials, instrumentation and controls, licensing and operations. This workshop follows that tradition while looking ahead to the systems and enabling technologies shaping the next generation of fission and fusion deployments.
Across two full days of invited and contributes talks and moderated discussions, participants will connect core concepts to real-world pathways: technology options, supply chains and qualification, monitoring and safeguards, digitalization, grid integration, and the social and workforce foundations needed for durable progress.
Topics include:
Nuclear power fundamentals and technology pathways (fission and fusion context)
Industry–university perspectives on development, testing, qualification, and scale-up
Advanced-reactor applications and missions (including non-electric and specialized deployments)
Reactor monitoring, sensors, and measurement strategies; safeguards readiness
Regulatory landscape, standards, and the role of professional societies
Digital twins, modeling and simulation, data analytics, and AI for design and operations
Energy storage and grid integration; hybrid systems and load-following considerations
Social, ethical, and workforce dimensions that support durable deployment
