The State of Womxn is a free, celebratory event that will challenge attendees of all gender identities to consider what is needed to further advance gender equity over the next ten years. Centering the needs of womxn today, panelists and artists will examine where we have been, what has been achieved, and what has persisted for the past decade. With artistic performances, awards, and a celebrity panel of womxn change makers, we invite you to join us in building the next 10 years of gender equity advancement at Illinois.

Speakers will address a variety of questions including: What does a more equitable future look like? What can we learn from our mistakes and victories of the past? What must be done to ensure we are working toward a future in support of ALL womxn?

Speakers and performers include:

  • Rachel Switzky (Director, Siebel Center for Design)
  • Tahirah Amatul-Wadud (Attorney & Commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women)
  • Sesali Bowen (Former Senior Entertainment Editor, NYLON)
  • Tekita Bankhead (Specialist in Education, Counseling Center)
  • Celeste Sanchez (Spoken Word Artist)

This event kicks off the #10YearsRising celebration in honor of the Women's Resources Center's 10 Year Anniversary, hosted from November 14- 16, 2019 in Champaign-Urbana. For additional event details, visit https://oiir.illinois.edu/10YRSRISING.
