Title: From optical imaging of the brain to brain-inspired photonics

Abstract: The brain is a powerful organ that regulates health and drives intelligence. In this talk, I'll explore two main topics related to understanding the brain and designing smarter devices inspired by it. First, I'll discuss the development of advanced optical microscopy and computational tools that enable us to better image the brain. Then, I'll discuss our work on brain-inspired optical systems for more efficient information processing and learning. Lastly, I'll highlight the potential opportunities inspired by these works to enhance both our understanding of the brain and the development of next-generation smart systems.

Fei Xia is a postdoctoral researcher at École Normale Supérieure and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris, France, working with Prof. Sylvain Gigan. She received her Ph.D. in 2021 from Cornell University, under the guidance of Prof. Chris Xu. Her primary research interest lies in developing solutions to extend the capabilities of optical imaging, sensing and information processing. Fei has been recognized with several awards, including the Optica Foundation Challenge Award, the Women in Optics by the International Society for Optics and Photonics, the Data Open Championship, and the Mong NeuroTech Fellowship from Cornell University.
