ABSTRACT:
This group of presenters are all UIUC engineering alumni, successful entrepreneurs in Chicago, and current members of the vibrant Chicago tech scene. Together, they will tell a few short stories of their time as entrepreneurs, how they’ve evolved their careers over a lifetime, and take questions about what life is like as a technology-oriented, young professional working in the very vibrant and exciting Chicago technology scene.

Joe Beatty
Title: Angel Investor and Startup Advisor
Bio: Joe earned his BSEE degree at UIUC and his MBA at The University of Chicago. Joe is currently a Board Member at FourKites, Inc., Fullerton Engineering, and Part Analytics, as well as serves as Member/Investor at Hyde Park Angels. Hyde Park Angels is the most active early-stage investor in Chicago with a commitment to taking a "people-first approach" to investing.
Scott Rose
Title: Intrapreneur|Entrepreneur|Investor|Advisor
Bio: After Scott earned his BSCE degree at UIUC, he transitioned to the financial markets. Over the last 30 years he has built a variety of technology enabled investment businesses both within large firms and as an independent startup. Currently, Scott is building the Electronic Execution Services business within StoneX Markets LLC.
Scott is an active angel investor and advisor and does the majority of his investing through Hyde Park Angels, one of the most active early-stage investors in the Midwest.
Scott also serves as a board member of the UIUC Research Park and as an advisor on the Board of Visitors of the College of Engineering.
John Thode
Title: Entrepreneur|Director|Investor|Educator
Bio: John earned his BSEE at UIUC and his MSEE at the Illinois Institute of Technology. John is an intra/entrepreneur and has successfully built technology businesses, by creating innovative products/services in mobility, computing, security and imaging for the consumer and enterprise markets.
Currently, John is Clinical Professor of Innovation, Leadership, and Engineering Entrepreneurship at the Technology Entrepreneur Center of the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana Champaign and serves on several advisory and non-profit BODs. He is also an active investor with Hyde Park Angels, the most active early-stage investors in the Midwest.
John continues as the Founder & Chairman of Thode Residential Rental Properties, LLC. Recognizing a significant opportunity in the real-estate market, John founded a multi-million-dollar start-up focused on monetizing distressed properties using big data and proprietary modeling.
Mark Tebbe
Title: Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship at University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Bio: Mark earned his BSCS at UIUC. Mark is currently an Adjunct Professor, Executive Chairman at ChicagoNEXT, Executive Committee Member at 1871, Board Member at Chicagoland Entrepreneurial Center, and University of Illinois President's Advisory Council MemberUniversity of Illinois President's Advisory Council Member.
