The Polish Wieniawski Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in December 1944 and is the largest music institution in eastern Poland. Its beginnings go back to numerous chamber and solo concerts given by musicians who after World War II established ties within Poland. On May 18, 1945, these smaller events were enlarged into an orchestral classical music gala—the first symphony concert in post-war Poland. Since then, the ensemble has toured internationally and featured acclaimed artists both from Poland and abroad. Led by its principal conductor Wojciech Rodek, the orchestra now makes its first US tour.

Featured soloist Sara Dragan has won approximately 50 violin competitions in Europe, Asia, and the United States including the International Henryk Wieniawski and Karol Lipinski Violin Competition, New York International Artists Association Competition, and International Global Music Partnership Competition. Said Jadwiga Kaliszewska, founder of and former violin professor at the Talent School in PoznaƄ, Poland, “Sara Dragan is an extremely talented young violinist. She is a phenomenon of her age group . . . and is an immensely gifted and creative musician.”

Brahms: Variations on a Theme by Haydn, Op. 56
Tchaikovsky: Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 35

In order to attend an in-theatre performance at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, audience members must provide proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. This change is occurring in response to increasingly strict contractual requirements of visiting artists, evolving performing arts industry standards, and audience expectations. At this time, face coverings are still required in indoor university spaces such as Krannert Center. Face coverings must be worn throughout any event
