Tyson Lewis Workshop: "Experimenting with Drift"

In this workshop, Dr. Tyson E. Lewis will give a brief presentation and performance of the idea of perceptual, linguistic, and conceptual drift from his book The Alchemy of Research-Creation. He will then proceed to lead an experiment in producing drift that will engage with the Ricker Library’s collection. The net result will be the creation of a unique constellation of alchemical codes and sigils.

Dr. Tyson E. Lewis is a Professor Art Education in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas. He has published widely on topics such as research-creation, critical pedagogy, critical phenomenology, aesthetic philosophy, critical theory, posthumanism, and antifascist education. In 2024, Dr. Lewis was included on the Stanford University/Elsevier list for the world’s Top 2% most-cited researchers in the world. He is author of many books, including Studious Drift: Movements and Protocols for a Postdigital Education and The Alchemy of Research-Creation, both co-authored with Peter Hyland. Currently, he sits on the executive committee for the Philosophy of Education Society and on the steering committee for the Art Education Research Institute and has served as the commentary editor for the journal Studies in Art Education.
