Jason Dean (Linda Hall Library) will join us via Zoom to discuss the incident in which John Flamsteed, the first Astronomer Royal, burned copies of his own astronomical work, Historia Coelestis. The events that led to this furious act involved some of the most powerful members of the early Royal Society, including Isaac Newton and Edmond Halley, all embroiled in professional jealousy, intellectual theft, and clandestine printing. Open to all.
