This virtual panel celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and the launch of the bilingual book ¡Pleibol! In the Barrios and the Big Leagues / En los barrios y las grandes ligas co-authored by Adrian Burgos and Margaret Salazar-Porzio. The panel will explore the contemporary issues, journeys, and passions of Latinas/os/xs in baseball.

Hosted in collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution, the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Major League Baseball, and Minor League Baseball, the panel will feature:

  • Jose Alamillo - California State University, Channel Islands
  • Adrian Burgos (moderator) - University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
  • Robin Morey - National Museum of American History
  • Anthony Pardo - Major League Baseball, SOMOS Business Resource Group
  • Chanel Zapata - Minor League Baseball, Copa de la Diversión

The discussion will include a brief introduction to the Pleibol project, a 45-minute moderated conversation with our panelists, and about 40 minutes of Q&A from the virtual audience. The event will be hosted on Streamyard, which will stream from Smithsonian Facebook live accounts and over Youtube. Join us at https://s.si.edu/pleibol-now
