This is the first lecture in the series "Timbuktu Talks," presented by the Center for African Studies.  The series is hosted by Professor Mauro Nobili of the Department of History.  The city of Timbuktu in Mali epitomizes the intellectual vibrancy of African Muslim societies.  These lectures explore past and contemporary aspects of Islamic Africa.
