A panel discussion on antisemitism featuring Peter Fritzsche (History) and Mark Roseman (Indiana University), moderated by Harriet Murav (Comparative and World Literature/Slavic Languages and Literatures). The panel will examine topics such as early 20th century history of antisemitism in Germany and Europe, the meaning and function of race in the Nazi regime, and how the lessons of history can help us understand about the rise and evolution of hatred and violence.
Mark Roseman is Pat M Glazer Chair in Jewish Studies and Professor of History at Indiana University. He directs the Borns Jewish Studies Program, is co-editor of the volume Beyond the Racial State: Rethinking the Racial State in Nazi Germany, co-author of Jewish Responses to Persecution: 1933–1938 (Documenting Life and Destruction: Holocaust Sources in Context), and author of Lives Reclaimed: A Story of Rescue and Resistance in Nazi Germany. Peter Fritzsche is W. D. and Sara E. Trowbridge Professor of History here at the University of Illinois. He is the author of An Iron Wind: Europe Under Hitler, Life and Death in the Third Reich, and Germans into Nazis.
