This event is part of a series of virtual coffee hours with working professionals hosted by the European Union Center. These virtual coffee hours are intended to be an opportunity for undergraduate and masters students at the University of Illinois to meet and chat informally and network with working professionals from different fields. The virtual coffee hour will begin with a 15-minute presentation by the speaker, followed by 45 minutes of informal discussion and questions from students. Students are strongly encouraged to come with questions prepared. Please register here


Bergen Bassett is Consular officer for the State Department in Mexico City who previously served in Manila, Philippines. Before joining the State Department in 2016, she worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency as the final editor for the Joint Chiefs of Staff daily intelligence brief. Previous professional positions include U.S. Army officer, intelligence research analyst, and threat analyst focused on continuity of operations. She also interned at the European Parliament in Brussels and with the State Department in Washington DC. Bergen received an MA in EU Studies from the University of Illinois in 2012 and a BA in Government from the College of William and Mary in 2000.
