In this informal workshop discussion, the son-father team of media scholars, Benjamin Peters and John Durham Peters, will reflect on the questions concerning AI by commenting on the transnational histories, ontologically pluralist philosophies, and speculative futures of the digital media sometimes called artificial intelligence. In what hopes to prove a wide-ranging, informal, and live interactive conversation with fellow participants, the Peterses will start by reflecting on their ongoing research projects, including Ben’s current book project on the Soviet prehistory to artificial intelligence (working points: AI today is Soviet, and ChatGPT hallucinates today because of Stalin’s homophobic purges) and John’s related projects across media history and philosophy.
Lunch will be provided, but seats are limited. RSVP by Friday, October 10th: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/fdqpXLrty
