Faculty Seminar Series on Teaching & Learning

Theme: How well designed and implemented are your courses to maximize your students being successful learners?

Student thrive when they feel personally validated, have a growth mindset, and active involvement. Faculty play a critical role in creating this type of culture where students can be successful.

We are pleased to be meeting in person again! Come join a dynamic learning community by participating in this specially designed workshop series for all faculty (across all disciplines and rank). We’ll share strategies and best practices from research-based pedagogy. Great conversations and handouts guanteed.

Session 3: Opening the Classroom Door: Join Us for Opportunities to Observe Exemplary Teachers

(Introductory Session)

  • Have you ever wondered what takes place in the classes of some of our exemplary teachers?
  • What approaches or strategies do they employ?
  • How engaged are their students?
  • How similar is their teaching to yours?

Here is an opportunity for us to “open the classroom door!” not only to visit classes across campus, but also to have a conversation. Teaching should not be a closed, private endeavor but one where we can share and brainstorm. Several of our colleagues have “opened their classroom door” for us to visit. The classes are across disciplines (and are offered on different days and hours) – so there should be an opportunity for everyone to do a visit.

Join our introductory session to prepare for our visits: learn about characteristics of excellent teaching, what to look for (and practice taking notes), and classroom etiquette. The schedule and sign-up will be available. If you are not available to attend this introductory session but would like to be on this “road trip”, please email me (cbolinn@illinois.edu) and I’ll set you up.

*This workshop counts towards completion of any of CITL's Teaching Certificates. To learn more about our Teaching Certificate program please visit https://go.illinois.edu/teaching_certificates.
