Abstract: Traditional factories tend to be highly optimized for high-volume, low mix product lines and strictly separate human and robot workers to facilitate safe, high-speed automation. In collaboration with FIT, we are developing tools to enable low-volume, high mix production lines through general and adaptive assembly methods and scalable planning techniques. Additionally, we are designing frameworks that allow for collaborative manufacturing workcells so product lines can take advantage of the complementary skills of humans and robots. In this talk, we’ll present our recent efforts in precision manipulation & perception, safe interaction, intelligent scheduling, and simulation.
