This presentation will focus on Japan’s colonial responsibility for Korea through the Japan–ROK Normalization Talk and the role of the United States. Prof. Yoshizawa will give an overview of the Japan-ROK relations from 1904 to 1965: Japan’s Annexation and colonial domination of Korea, Liberation of Korea in 1945, and the Japan-ROK Normalization Talks in 1965. Focusing on the declassification of the diplomatic documents by governments of Japan and Korea that seems relatively unknown in the United States, this presentation seeks to bring more attention to the role of the United States in the discussion about colonial responsiblity for Korea.
