This one-day course provides an introduction to the Microsoft Transact-SQL query language and detailed, hands-on experience writing SELECT queries. This course should be attended by those who can write or understand / modify existing SELECT queries. We will use SQL Server 2012, but the concepts apply to all relational databases. Attendees will learn about the structure of the Transact-SQL query language; the ways that queries may be issued to SQL Server; how to write and troubleshoot SELECT queries; how to work with date, time and string character data formats; how to group data and perform statistical summarizations; how to construct sub-queries to break down complex queries; and how to use standard table joins to retrieve data from multiple tables.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with MS Windows OS; basic familiarity with Relational Database concepts (tables, relationships).
