Thanks to a generous gift from the IFSA Foundation in Indianapolis, Indiana, the College of Education is pleased to be able to offer study abroad scholarships in the amount of $500-$1,000 each to College of Education undergraduate students who participate in a University of Illinois-administered study abroad program beginning in the 2013 calendar year.
The criteria for the scholarship includes the following:
- Minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA.
- An undergraduate enrolled in one of the three degree programs leading to certification (Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education or Special Education) or enrolled in the “pre-“ program in the College of Education.
- Relevance of study abroad program to applicant’s career as a teacher.
Applications are now available at https://my.education.illinois.edu/submit/. The complete application must be submitted by October 15.
A complete application consists of the following items:
- This application form.
- A brief description of the study abroad program in which you will enroll.
- A one-page essay.
All complete applications submitted by the appropriate deadline will be reviewed by a committee consisting of faculty and/or stafffrom the College of Education. Students selected to receive the scholarshipwill be notified in writing of their award in approximately early November.Funds will be credited to the recipient’s University of Illinois student account. Upon return to campus after the study abroad semester, scholarship recipients will be required to volunteer for a specified number of hours in activities that help promote study abroad opportunities to other education majors. Recipients will also be required to complete a project that can be used by the College of Education to inform its undergraduate students about study abroad programs. Further details about the volunteer service requirement and project will be provided in the scholarship award letter.
