Physical inactivity is a fast-growing public health problem and contributes to a variety of chronic diseases and health complications, including obesity, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, depression and anxiety, arthritis, and osteoporosis. In addition to improving overall health, increasing physical activity has proven effective in the treatment and prevention of chronic diseases.
American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) established EIM-OC calls upon universities and colleges to promote physical activity as a vital sign of health.
This year, our university will be hosting EIM-OC month 2023. We will be promoting physical activity and exercise opportunities for students and the Illinois Campus Community. We hope to spread ways to keep active and inspire our #ActiveIllini
