Video Contest for High School Students
Produce a 5-minute cell phone/tablet/whatever video ‘interpretation’ of “Speech to the Young,” by Gwendolyn Brooks (individual or group projects welcomed).
Interpretation can mean anything you want it to mean: rap it, snap it, hip-hop it, turn it into an opera aria, whatever!
Winning video will be screened at the April 24, 2014 Celebration of the Gwendolyn Brooks Archives. (7:30 at Lincoln Hall—admission free!)
Winning video receives $300 donation to your favorite school club or library! All entrants receive a book by Gwendolyn Brooks.
DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES EXTENDED TO APRIL 15!
Speech to the Young: Speech to the Progress-Toward
Say to them,
say to the down-keepers,
"even if you are not ready for day
it cannot always be night."
You will be right.
For that is the hard home-run.
Live not for battles won.
Live not for the-end-of-the-song.
Live in the along.
Read it, think about it, film it!
