From Professor Ghassan Moussawi: This talk considers the need for flexible methodologies during research amidst instability and violence in the field. Drawing on auto-ethnographic accounts, transnational feminist theory and studies of affect, I ask what we can learn from "bad feelings" that arise in fieldwork. I propose a method of using "bad feelings" to orient our research questions, subjects of inquiry, and to broaden how we conceive of knowledge production.
Professor Moussawi is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Illiois at Urbana-Champaign.
