AE recent alumni will present on a variety of topics chosen by students. Students are invited to join them to hear their perspective on early career life and take the opportunity to network.

10:00 - 10:45 a.m.
Power of Taking Non-linear Career Trajectories - This Panel will discuss why to consider taking a non-linear career trajectory to meet your personal interests and goals after some reflection; how to present yourself in a way that people will listen to and how to back up that presentation with follow-through and high-quality consistent work.
Presenters: Meghana Veeramachaneni (BS '18) and Kevin Burns (BS '18)

Technical or Management? An Engineer’s Dilemma - Often in the workplace engineers are faced with a turning point in their career- shifting to a management position or continuing to remain technical. Sometimes you can blend both and be in technical management. In either case there are skills that you learn and enjoy early on in education and your career that you can use to help make your decision.
Presenters: Emily Tokarski (BS '20, MEng '21) and David Degenhardt (BS '17, MS '19)

Communicating with Engineering Leadership as a New Hire - Panel will discuss personal anecdotes with advice on how to speak to leadership, followed by a skit given by Nick and Katie based on a real life scenario that students may find themselves in. The session will end with Q&A.
Presenters: Katie Carroll (BS '19) and Nick Zuiker (BS '18, MS '20)

11:00 - 11:45 a.m.

Diversity Across Settings - Panel will discuss diversity across the panelists' respective companies, including diversity statistics, initiatives, and personal experiences. It will end with a Q&A.
Presenters: Katie Carroll (BS '19) and Emily Tokarski (BS '20, MEng '21)

Workplace Mindset and Emotional Intelligence in Engineering Teams - People often succeed or fail in engineering organizations as a result of a knowledge, or lack thereof, of one's own emotional intelligence. Engineering projects by nature can be stressful and high pressure, so learning how to react to tough situations and managing emotions can be a powerful way to make the best impact or otherwise distinguish yourself and can lead to future career success. This session will cover a number of topics related to emotional intelligence, including self awareness at work, building trust with your coworkers, and handling mistakes and disappointments in the workplace.
Presenters: David Degenhardt (BS '17, MS '19) and Kevin Burns (BS '18)

Portfolio Building and Career Development - How do we develop desirable technical skills and experience to prepare us for work and/or research? Each panelist will provide their own story which they believe best answers the primary question, "How do we develop our technical portfolios?"
Presenters: Meghana Veeramachaneni (BS '18) and Nick Zuiker (BS '18, MS '20)
