Prof. Henrik Williams
Uppsala University, Sweden
The Kensington Runestone
Thursday, March 31 from 3-5 pm (Central Time) on Zoom
Abstract: The Kensington Runestone is the most (in)famous runic memorial in the world. It has been controversial ever since its appearance 1898 in western Minnesota. The runic text claims that a party of Scandinavians were on a trip from Vinland, that some of them died, and that the inscription was carved in 1362. Prof. Williams will discuss the adventures of the runestone and the arguments pro and contra its authenticity.
Other runic objects found in the United States will be mentioned as well.
