Katherine Nixon graduated with a bachelor of science in general engineering from UIUC in 2002.  She worked at The Boeing Company for 5 years.  She worked on the JDAM program for the guidance and controls team, supporting flight tests, performing hardware in the loop testing, and leading guidance and controls improvement projects. JDAM was in the Guiness Book of World Records in 2003 for the world's most accurate bomb. JDAM munitions were responsible for neutralizing important targets in the War on Terror such as Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. During her time at The Boeing Company, she earned a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis.

While she thoroughly enjoyed her career, and was genuinely happy working at the Boeing Company, she felt like something was missing in her life. She left her job at Boeing to pursue medicine. She wanted to practice using a more holistic approach, and felt drawn to Osteopathic Medicine due to the philosophy and different way of treating patients. She is currently an Osteopathic Physician in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She is a program director of a residency program and enjoys teaching the next generation of doctors. Dr. Nixon is also the Director of Osteopathic Education for the Internal Medicine residency at her hospital.

She is happily married and mother to a 5 year old boy.

Because there is not nearly enough math or physics in medicine, she enjoys amateur radio as a new hobby. Other current and past hobbies include fashion design, illustration, photography, playing piano, playing guitar, and singing.
